Feb. 3Use your JRI CD on track 68 to help you continue working on improvisation. This week, focus on improvising rhythms on your bass line and the 3 harmony parts we have worked on in class (DO-TI-DO, MI-FA-MI, SO-SO-SO). Keep the notes the same for each part, but make up your own rhythms. Since we're in duple meter, you can use DU, DU-DE, DU-TA-DE-TA, or any combination of rhythms that stays in DUPLE meter.
If that feels comfortable... Use your Jump Right In CD to help you practice improvisation (making up your own songs) this week. On track 68, you will hear the piano play the bass line to Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. Choose ONE NOTE to play on your recorder for each note in the bass line, but this time, add rhythm to it (like what you did with the bass line and harmony parts above!). Here's an example to help you: The shape of the first part of the bass line is: DO DO FA DO SO DO SO DO I know that when I see DO, it's my TONIC note, so I can play DO MI or SO. When I see FA, it's my SUBDOMINANT note, so I can play FA, LA, or DO. When I see SO, it's my DOMINANT note, so I can play SO, FA, RE, or TI. I'm going to choose one of those notes for each note in the bass line to create my improvisation. BASS LINE: DO DO FA DO SO DO SO DO IMPROVISATION: Do Mi Fa Mi Re Do Ti Do This time instead of holding out each note for one full beat, I'll use different rhythms to make my improvisation sound more interesting. Try improvising the entire song - we'll keep practicing together in class! Our second performance day song will be Tum Balalaika...please review your words and melody here if you need extra help!TUM BALALAIKA LYRICS
Two far off lands ‘cross mountain and sea Two lands as different as different can be. Although so different in face and in name, All of the dreams that we dream are the same. Maiden, maiden, tell me true: What can glow without the dew? What can burn for years and years? What can cry yet shed no tears? PART 1 Come spread the message of peace far and wide: All races and nations shall live side by side. Join hands ‘cross the oceans and soon we shall find A great world of friendship for all humankind. Join hands ‘cross the oceans and soon we shall find A great world of friendship for all humankind. PART 2 Tum bal-a Tum bal-a Tum bal-a-lai-ka Tum bal-a Tum bal-a- Tum bal-a-lai-ka. Tum bal-a-lai-ka, Tum bal-a-lai-ka, Tum bal-a-lai-ka, tum bal-a-lai. Join hands ‘cross the oceans and soon we shall find A great world of friendship for all humankind. |
